Preparation:

All surfaces are cleaned to SSPC-SP1 standards. This method of surface preparation is meant to remove soluble substances from steel. Before a paint or other protective coating is applied, a solvent is used to remove all visible oil, grease, dirt, drawing or cutting compounds, or other soluble contaminants.

Abrasive Blasting:

All items are blasted to a minimum of SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2 near white metal blast.

SSPC-SP 10/NACE No. 2 removes all dust, coating, and mill scale. The limit of staining permitted for near-white metal blast cleaning is no more than five percent of each unit area of the surface.

Industrial Coating:

When executed properly, a coating system is a viable solution to maintain the integrity of your material and can add years to the life of a substrate by creating a constant protective lining that protects against the devastating effects of corrosion. Cost, environmental factors, and aesthetics all factor in to what coating system is the right fit for your job.

1: Zinc- Zinc-rich coatings are used to protect steel substrates from corroding by employing some barrier protection but primarily sacrificial or cathodic protection. The type of zinc-rich coating is defined by the binder that is used during the formulation and manufacturing of the coating.  Inorganic zinc-rich coatings generally consist of a silicate binder whereas organic zinc-rich coatings can use a wide array of binders including epoxy, polyurethane, and alkyd, etc.

2. Epoxy- These are generally packaged in two parts that are mixed prior to application. The two parts consist of 1) an epoxy resin which is cross-linked with 2) a co-reactant or hardener. Epoxy coatings are formulated based upon the performance requirements for the end product. When properly catalyzed and applied, epoxies produce a hard, chemical and solvent resistant finish. They are typically used on concrete and steel to give resistance to water, alkali and acids. It is the specific selection and combination of the epoxy component and the hardener component that determines the final characteristics and suitability of the epoxy coating for a given environment.

3. Polyurethane- Originally invented in the 1940’s as a substitute for rubber, this is a highly versatile and useful coating. It adds durability by protecting against chemicals. It is also resistant to scratches and its flexibility prevents cracking and flaking. It acts as a water repellent and bonds thoroughly to surfaces. Polyurethane Coatings also offer UV protection as well as aesthetic qualities.
